How to Change the Logon Screen Background in Windows 7

Win 7 Customized Logon ScreenHow would you like to change the logon screen background in Windows 7 so as to give your Windows a customized look and feel? With a small tweak it is possible to customize the Windows 7 logon screen and set your own picture/wallpaper as the background. Changing logon screen background in Windows 7 is as simple as changing your desktop wallpaper. Well here is a step by step instruction to customize the logon screen background.

1. The image you need to set as the background should be a .jpg file and it’s size should not exceed 245KB.
2. The image resolution can be anything of your choice. However I prefer 1440 x 900 or 1024 x 768. You can use any of the photo editing software such as Photoshop to compress and set the resolution for your image. Once you’re done, save this image as backgroundDefault.jpg.
3. You will need to copy this image to
C:\Windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds
You will need to create that path if it does not already exist on your computer.
4. Now open the Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> Type regedit) and navigate to the following key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\
LogonUI\Background
If Background does not exist rightclick LogonUI, select New and then Key, and then name it Background. Now locate OEMBackground (listed on the right side). If it does not exist, right-click Background and select New and then DWORD and name it OEMBackground.
5. Double-click on OEMBackground and set the Value Data to 1.
6. Now log-off to see the new logon screen background. If you would like to revert back to the default background, just set the Value Data back to 0.
I hope you like this trick. Just try out and give your feedback!

:: How to Create Your Own Customized Run Commands ::

How to Create Your Own Customized Run Commands

Run commandThe Run command on Microsoft Windows operating system allows you to directly open an application or document with just a single command instead of navigating to it’s location and double-clicking the executable icon. However, it only works for some of the inbuilt Windows programs such as Command prompt (cmd), Calculator (calc) etc. So, have you ever wondered how to create your own customized Run commands for accessing your favorite programs, files and folders? Well, read on to find out the answer.

Creating the Customized Run Command

Let me take up an example of how to create a customized run command for opening the Internet explorer. Once you create this command, you should be able to open the Internet explorer just by typing “ie” (without quotes) in the Run dialog box. Here is how you can do that.
1. Right click on your Desktop and select New -> Shortcut.
2. You will see a “Create Shortcut” Dialog box as shown below

Create Shortcut

3. Click on “Browse”, navigate to: Program Files -> Internet Explorer from your Root drive (usually C:\) and select “iexplore” as shown in the above figure and click on “OK”.
4. Now click on “Next” and type any name for your shortcut. You can choose any name as per your choice; this will be your customized “Run command”. In this case I name my shortcut as “ie”. Click on “Finish”.
5. You will see a shortcut named “ie” on your desktop. All you need to do is just copy this shortcut and paste it in your Windows folder (usually “C:/Windows”). Once you have copied the shortcut onto your Windows folder, you can delete the one on your Desktop.
6. That’s it! From now on, just open the Run dialog box, type ie and hit Enter to open the Internet Explorer.
In this way you can create customized Run commands for any program of your choice. Say “ff” for Firefox, “ym” for Yahoo messenger, “wmp” for Windows media player and so on.
To do this, when you click on “Browse” in the Step-3, just select the target program’s main executable (.exe) file which will usually be located in the C:\Program Files folder. Give a simple and short name for this shortcut as per your choice and copy the shortcut file onto the Windows folder as usual. Now just type this short name in the Run dialog box to open the program.
I hope you like this post! Pass your comments

This useful tool is actually brought to you by tweaks.com.

If you want the default Windows 7 logon screen back just click Revert to Default Logon Screen and the application will automatically uninstall any customized screens.

To change the logon screen, download Tweaks.com Logon changer for Windows 7.

Unzip the 250 KB zip file and run the program. When the program loads up, Click on Change Logon Screen button.

How To Partition Hard Drive Without Losing Data in WindOws 7

How To Partition Hard Drive Without Losing Data in WindOws 7

By the time using your computer, you might have wished to partition your hard drive. Perhaps, the reason might be to dual boot or secure some separate partition for backing up old or important data. You might be guessing that I would suggest you to download some tools. But it’s not like that, I am not going to suggest you those old tricks that says to back-up your data and place it in separate storage device and partition it again and again it to one of your partition.

In Windows 7, there is simple way to do it. Today in this tutorial, I’ll be guiding you through the each and every steps with screenshots.

Before starting note that,

- We can partition any drive, even a system drive

- We can do it only in Windows, Windows 7 and Vista specifically

So let’s divide it.

Go to Start > Right click on My Computer and choose Manage.

Disk Management Window will Pop-up, it may take time to load it since it fetches for all the hardware and system information in your PC. After it’s fully loaded, go to Storage> Disk management at the left sidebar. This is where we’ll have all the information about storage devices that are in our PC currently connected and active.

At the right column all the storage media will be listed with their basic information like File system type, and status. Now choose the Volume that you want to partition. Right Click on it and select Shrink Volume option from menu.

As soon as you click on the Shrink Volume option, system will search for available space in your selected Disk Volume.

This will not take much longer than few seconds. After querying, Shrink window will pop-up. This is where you’ll have to specify the Volume for next partition.

Look at the total size of available shrink space. Below it, you’ll have to Enter the space to shrink.

You must make sure that the size is not below the total size of space taken by files in that drive.

You can check the used space by right clicking on the drive you are going to partition and choose Properties.

Click on Shrink button after specifying the size to shrink. The shrink size is for the value for the partition where your old files will be contained and remaining size will allocated for your next partition.

But you’ll still not able to access this new drive. You’ll have to format it and specify the drive letter to access them. To do so, continue reading.

Right click on unallocated drive and choose New Simple Volume option.

New Simple Volume Wizard Window will popup.

Click on Next button to continue.

In next window, you’ll have to specify the size for your new volume. Set full size if you are satisfied with two partitions; else divide it again for new partition.

Next choose any drive letter from the available list and click on Next button.

In next window, leave everything as default but make sure it’s similar to the screen below:

Click on Finish window to complete the wizard.

If you’ve autoplay enabled in your computer, then New Volume will be auto played for the first and last time.

Go to my Computer to see your new drive ready.

With similar method you can also format your empty drive to create multiple partitions.

Hide drive in windows 7

There are many third party softwares available in market which can facilitate us to hide drive.

But if any software is installed in your system, it does not allow you to install those softwares which hide drives or folders.

Windows 7 itself allows its users to hide drive through disk management tool. You just need to follow given steps in order to hide drive.

  1. Select the drive you want to hide and place you all private data in it.
  2. Now open the start menu and move your cursor to My Computer. By right-clicking and my computer, you will get option to manage your computer. Open the computer management by clicking it.
  3. Go to disk management and open it. You would be able to see all the drives of you system.
  4. Right-click at the drive you want to hide and select “Change drives letter and paths” option.
  5. A small window will be arrived which would allow you to remove the drive letter.
  6. Windows will get confirmation from you that whether you really want to remove drive letter or path? Confirm it by clicking at yes.
  7. Window will inform you that the drive you are trying to hide is in use and removing its path can cause problems in the future. Don’t get worried from this option. Click at “yes” to continue.
  8. You will notice that the drive letter has been removed. Now window will not be able to access files of this drive as you have already removed the path through which this drive can be accessed.
  9. Congratulations! You have succeeded to hide your drive. You can confirm it by going to “My Computer” and check this drive. You would not be able to see it.
  10. Now if you want to access this drive, you would need to bring it in the “My Computer” again. In the disk management tool, right click at that drive and again go to “change drive letters and paths” option. Assign letter to the drive and click ok. Your drive will be appeared in “My Computer”.

Note: If you want to hide drive through this procedure, it’s better to hide your last drive of your system. No one would be able to figure out whether there can be another drive or not.
