Samsung Galaxy S II vs Apple iPhone 4

Samsung Galaxy S II vs Apple iPhone 4

We put the brand new Samsung Galaxy S II against its market-defining rival, the Apple iPhone 4 to see which comes out on top

Samsung Galaxy S II vs Apple iPhone 4

Samsung Galaxy S II vs Apple iPhone 4

Samsung's Galaxy S II was probably the most important phone launched at Mobile World Congress 2011.
Like its precessor the Samsung Galaxy S, it has a stunning screen and looks like a beautiful object.
We compare the stats of the two devices to see which touchscreened beauty takes the biscuit.

Form

Samsung Galaxy S II - 125.3x66.1x8.49mm, 116g
Apple iPhone 4 - 115.2x58.6x9.3mm, 137g

Overall the iPhone 4 is a more compact solution, the one exception being the thickness (or should that be thinness?) as it is just pipped by the Samsung S II by only a hair’s breadth, the S II also weighs less, but really if you’re looking for a sleek, compact and ultra-thin handset you simply cannot go wrong with either of these phones, they both looks the business as far as state-of-the-art, wafer thin smartphones are concerned.
We’ll cover display in more detail in a moment but it’s fair to say that physical size of the device affects the screen size and in this regard the Samsung has the largest of the pair with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, while the iPhone 4 has a 3.5-inch.
After that it really comes down to personal preference, the iPhone 4 is, well, an iPhone, with all the visual styling that goes with it and just like a certain yeast-based spread people tend to either love it or hate it. The Galaxy S II, on the other hand, may prove to be something of an acquired taste being something of a departure from the original Galaxy S’s smooth curves, we found the slightly more angular, ‘slab-like’ stylings of the S II have a certain charm to them.
The iPhone 4 is undoubtedly an attractive looking piece of kit but there are some who might be a bit tired of the now very familiar iDevice style, but it will no doubt always have its admirers.
Between the larger screen size, lighter weight and bold styling I’m going to have to vote in favour of the Samsung Galaxy S II on this one.
Winner – Samsung Galaxy S II

Display

As we mentioned the Galaxy S II has the larger screen of these devices at 4.3-inches to the iPhone 4’s 3.5-inches. The iPhone 4’s display is an LED backlit, capacitive TFT touchscreen at 960x640 resolution which features a “scratch-resistant oleophobic surface” along with multi-touch and a three axis gyro auto-rotate sensor.
The S II’s screen is a Super Amoled Plus at 800 x 480 resolution. This is a tricky one to call, iPhone screens are some of the best around and the 960x640 resolution is great but the Samsung’s Super Amoled provides a brighter and more vivid display than the iPhone 4’s retina display and with reduced power consumption to boot.
Overall we think the Super Amoled’s practical features just pushes the Samsung into the winning position in this category.
Winner – Samsung Galaxy S II

Operating System

The Galaxy S II runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and of course the iPhone 4 uses the latest version of Apple’s iOS.
Again this is a case of personal preference, Android is a much more customisable platform if that is what you’re after but there’s no denying the smoothness and usability of the iOS if you want something that will do a good job and don’t have the need for a tailored system.
Android does have its peculiar quirks, some of which are a bit irritating truth be told, in particular the web browser to which Opera or another third party browser is usually preferable.
Whatever you think of Apple products there is something about using an iOS device that brings a smile to your face because of its simplicity and how well it works, it’s just a no fuss platform and that’s definitely something to recommend.
Given time Android will likely smooth out the blemishes, although fragmentation issues are something to consider, future versions will aim to merge the current phone and tablet systems (Gingerbread and Honeycomb) into a much better platform and this is something we can see the S II really taking advantage of.
Winner – Draw

Storage

The iPhone 4 comes with either 16 or 32 GB internal storage and 512 MB RAM but sadly is let down by lack of card support, the Galaxy S II has the same internal storage options but with 1 GB RAM and allows up to 32 GB via Micro SD card.
This is something of a no-contest, the iPhone 4 not having card support on a modern smartphone is a big faux pas in our view as Apple continues to make the same blunder with its iPhone line. The Galaxy S II’s 32 GB Micro SD support and extra bit of RAM makes it a clear winner on this round.
Winner – Samsung Galaxy S II

Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy S II features an 8-megapixel primary camera at the rear of the phone, which also features an LED flash and is capable of capturing video and images at 1080p.
The S II also has a 2-megapixel camera on the front. The iPhone 4, meanwhile, has a 5-megapixel primary with LED flash and a 2592 x 1944 resolution, capable of 720p image and video capture.
The iPhone 4 camera also includes touch focus and geo-tagging features. The iPhone 4’s secondary camera is designed for the phone’s video-calling feature via Wi-Fi connections.
On this round it’s a case of bigger is better and the S II’s beefy 8-megapixel primary camera gives it that edge.
Winner- Samsung Galaxy S II

Apps

While the number and quality of apps for Android is steadily increasing it still is yet to come close to touching Apple’s crown as the undisputed King of apps.
You simply can’t beat an iOS device for sheer choice of great apps and for this reason there is no hesitation in saying the iPhone 4 wins this round straight away.
Winner – Apple iPhone 4

Processor

The iPhone 4 uses a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor, actually manufactured for Apple by Samsung. The A4 features a single ARM Cortex-A8 CPU core paired with a PowerVR SGX 535 graphics processor (GPU). The Galaxy S II uses Samsung’s own Exynos Dual Core Application Processor.
Apple’s processors are always impressive specimens and have enabled the iPhones to lead the smartphone pack in running apps, media and games effortlessly, to date they have made it look easy.
We somehow doubt the S II will come close to making the iPhone 4 look feeble but it does represent the ‘next gen’ of handsets a bit more than the iPhone 4 with its dual-core processor.
Phones are starting to follow the trends set by desktop and laptop computers where more cores has meant more power and efficiency, provided the programs and applications are made to utilise the multiple cores, that is.
As brilliant as Apple’s A4 processor is it’s not in line with the forward-thinking approach Samsung has taken with implementing dual-core technology in the Galaxy S II. In the long run the S II should prove more versatile but it doesn’t detract from how well the iPhone 4 functions in the current market.
Winner – Samsung Galaxy S II

Final Thoughts

This one has been really tough. The iPhone 4 is a great little handset which is very difficult to find fault with but it is a very current device and this is where the Samsung Galaxy S II distinguishes itself as something we can see being used for longer.
Samsung has future-proofed the S II by beefing up the features such as the camera and storage and have used clever tech like the dual-core processor and more power efficient screen.
In some ways it seems like Apple is simply sticking to its guns and catering to its own specific corner of the market, the company isn’t breaking ground with the new iPhone 4 where Samsung is really consolidating its position in the wake of the Galaxy S with a really ramped up successor in the Galaxy S II.

:Top 5 Tips to Work Faster in Microsoft Excel:

At everyone’s point in life, you will have to experience using the wonders of Excel. To be honest, Excel can be your best friend, but there are moments when little tricks that can make the word of a difference.

1. Multiple lines in a cell
Top 5 Excel Tips
Press Alt+Enter to start typing on a second line
To add a new line while typing in a cell, you will realize that it isn’t just the Enter key. Instead, while typing in a cell, hold Alt+Enter together to get that second line in a cell.

2. AutoFit row/column
Autofit Row Column Excel
Use keyboard shortcuts to auto-fit columns or rows
Has this happened to you? Your cell has excess space either with the row height or column width. Usually this would be a simple fix. All you would do is double-click the top row or column and the cell will adjust. However, what if this is the case for the entire worksheet, where you have thousands of cells?
This would be a cumbersome task to complete.
Well instead of suffering, all you would need to do is select all the cells, then Alt+H+O+A/I. Alternatively; you can select the Home Tab -> Format option -> AutoFit

3. Cell Merge
Excel Cell Merge Tip
Make your Excel spreadsheets look better by merging cells
Got a cell that has a lot of text in it? Well you can leave it and have the text hover over the neighbouring cells. But why not make it look more aesthetically pleasing.
Cell merge provides the solution by combining the selected cells into one cell. All you need to do is select the cells, alignment, and then click the “Merge Cells” option.

4. Switching between worksheets in a workbook
Have you ever created an excel sheet that has a couple of worksheets in one Excel file? Normally, you can use your mouse to navigate through each sheet, but this does get tiring.
Why not use keyboard shortcuts and avoid having to leave the comfort of your keyboard? All you need to do is click Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn to scroll through multiple sheets in a workbook

5. Formula check
Excel Tips
Reveal complicated formulas easily with this quick keyboard shortcut
We’ve all experienced the super complicated formulas in an Excel, all the IF statements or Vlookups. Sometimes we need to review the formula and make sure the according cells are included in the formula. A quick way to do that check is through F2 on your keyboard.
Select the cell you want to view and simply click F2. It will show all the cells included in the formula, as well as a breakdown of the formula.

How to Reclaim 7,042MB of Hard-Drive Space Instantly

Instantly reclaim 7GB of hard-drive space by adjusting the maximum recycle bin size
Instantly reclaim 7GB of hard-drive space by adjusting the maximum recycle bin size
If you have a solid-state drive, or just a very large movie collection, you need every gigabyte of free space you can get.
Removing unnecessary applications, running disk clean-up, or deleting restore points are good ways to save space, but none of them is as effective or as easy as this overlooked tip.
When you install Windows a huge chunk of space – 7,042MB to be exact – gets set aside for your recycle bin. Windows does this so that you’ll have space to store deleted files until you decide to remove them permanently.
If you empty your recycle bin frequently you probably don’t need that much space in reserve – Set the recycle bin size to 1GB for example and you stand to save 6GB instantly.
Here’s how:
  1. Right-click on your recycle bin
  2. Click Properties
  3. Set the “Custom size” to 1,000MB
  4. Click Apply

:How to Hack Symbian S60 Phones to Install Unsigned Applications:

How to Hack Symbian S60 Phones to Install Unsigned Applications

Hack Symbian S60 PhonesIf you own a Nokia Symbian S60 phone, you will most likely be aware of the fact that it is not possible to install applications on it unless they are signed using a valid certificate. Have you been trying to install applications on your S60 3rd or 5th edition phone but ending up getting a certificate error? At times, this can be really annoying; but here is a smart solution to this problem!
Here in this post, I will show you how to hack your Symbian S60 3rd or 5th edition smartphone, so as to modify the phone’s firmware and completely bypass the mandatory signing requirement. So, once you are done with this one time hack, you should be able to install any compatible application including unsigned and those with an expired certificate.

What is the Need for Signing Applications?
From the 3rd edition onwards, all the Symbian S60 applications need to be signed in order to ensure their integrity, so that it would not be possible for a third party to tamper with the application. Also, signing ensures that you always install applications from a trusted source.
However, there are many freeware and beta applications that come unsigned as the developers cannot afford to buy a symbian certificate. Hence, it can be a real nightmare for the users who need to install such applications on their phones. So, here is a step-by-step procedure to hack your phone and permanently disable this security feature.

1. Download  the latest version from the HelloOX2 Ofiicial Website.
HelloOX2 is an excellent tool to hack Symbian S60 3rd, 5th and Symbian^3 smartphones which makes it possible to install a root certificate by gaining full access to the phone’s system files. With this capability, you can install anything you want on your phones without the need to worry about the annoying certificate error!
2. The signed version of HelloOX2 demands for a donation and hence, only the unsigned version is available for free download. So, if you have the unsigned version, you need to sign it before installing on your phone. In order to sign any application, you need to have the certificate and the key file which can be obtained as follows:
  • Go to the OPDA Website, get registered and login to your account.
  • Click on the “Apply Certificate” tab, enter the model number and the IMEI of your phone and then click on “Submit and Upload” button.
  • It will usually take up 24 hours for your certificate and key file to be generated and uploaded. To check the status of your certificate click on “My Certificate” tab. If the certificate is ready for the download you will see something as follows:
OPDA Certificate Status

  • Download the certificate and the key file on to your computer. Also download the SisSigner tool to sign your HelloOX2 application.
  • Open the SisSigner, load the HelloOX2.sis, certificate and the key file as shown below and click on “Sign”. Leave the “Key File Password” field blank.
SisSigner

  • Your HelloOX2 application is now signed and ready for the installation.
3. Install the signed HelloOX2 application on your phone and run it to start the hacking process, which is completely automatic. Within a minute your phone will be hacked. Once this is done, say goodbye to the annoying certificate error and install any application.
I hope you like this post. Express your opinion through comments.

:How to Trace Any IP Address:

How to Trace Any IP Address

In my earlier post I had discussed about how to capture the IP address of a remote computer. Once you obtain this IP address it is necessary to trace it back to it’s source. So in this post I will show you how to trace any IP address back to it’s source. In fact tracing an IP address is very simple and easy than we think. There exists many websites through which you can trace any IP address back to it’s source. One of my favorite site is ip2location.com.
Just go to http://www.ip2location.com/demo.aspx and enter the IP address that you want to trace in the dialog box and click on “Find Location”‘. With just a click of a button you can find the following information for any given IP address.
1. Country in which the IP is located
2. Region
3. City
4. Latitude/Longitude
5. Zip Code
6. Time Zone
7. Name of the ISP
8. Internet Speed
9. Weather Station
10. Area Code and
11. Domain name associated with the IP address.
A sample snapshot of the results from ip2location.com is given below
ip2location_results
You can also visually trace route any IP address back to it’s location. For this just visit http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/visual-tracert/ and enter the IP you want to trace in the dialog box and hit the “Proxy Trace” button. Wait for few seconds and the visual trace route tool displays the path Internet packets traverse to reach a specified destination. Hope this helps. Please pass you comments.

Changed Google Policy and Safer internet Browsing

Changed Google Policy and Safer internet Browsing

I hope you all have noticed the yellow box that appears as you search something on Google and just in case you have missed out, Its because Google has changed its privacy policy that will be affected from 1st of March 2012.

With this changed policy now Google reserves the right to view your navigations and even follow your activities even on sites as famous as Youtube, Gmail or even the main Search Engine.  But there is one SERIOUS limitation with the changed policy, that It does not work until you are logged into the Google account.
Who will be effected most by this ? The people who would be affected the most are the Android Users who are always logged in into the Gmail accounts to use the Android at its extreme. That means they cannot access ANDROID MARKET  Yeah no Android Market means a useless Dumb device that can make calls play music and surf web with the pre-installed applications.
The Google officials says that there is no point in backing out from the new policy so everyone who used Google is bound to follow it  after 1st March 2012.
But the bright part about this changed policy is that Google is trying to make your Internet experience safer and  simplified. What Google officials are saying that is that even after all these changed policies your personal information is still safe and won’t be compromised at any cost.
For the details about how Google will use your information , check Goole Privacy Policy.

Tips for the Safe Browsing:
  • Never Search for your personal information in the Search Engines i.e. Your Credit card numbers, your name, and other important personal information. All these thing can lead a way to you, and can also reveal your intensity to the possible hackers.
  • Never use your ISP’s search engine as your ISP knows who you are so they can easily track you.
  • Don’t login into the search engines, like Gmail on the very right top check if you are logged in. All your information is being monitored if you are logged in.

  • Block Cookies for your search engines.
  • Always use dynamic IP address, that will vary you every time you are connected to Internet.
and
  • Use proxy servers if possible.
